Before, During & After Your MassageWhen NOT to Receive a Massage: You should not receive massage therapy when you have the flu, a cold or fever, a contagious rash, any type of bacterial infection, or are otherwise incapacitated to travel. If you are not sure whether or not a particular condition is appropriate, simply call our office, and someone will help you make an educated decision. Client Intake Form/Consultation: On your first visit, you will be asked to fill out a client intake form. On every visit, the therapist will review and discuss the form with you to determine any areas that need special attention and areas that should be avoided. Professional Draping: Draping is to your comfort level - from full draping to none at all. You should
undress to your comfort level. You gain the most benefits from being
completely undressed while getting a massage. Many women prefer to wear a thong panty which allows the therapist access to most of the muscles of the gluteal area (buttocks) and still allows the client a safe, comfortable experience.
Relax!: During your massage, relax and enjoy - put away all thoughts of the stress outside the room and concentrate on the relaxing music and safe touch that you are there to experience.
About your body - as therapists, we're there to help YOU relax, not judge you - we have seen many people from many walks of life, nationalities, age groups, and body styles, so there is no need to feel embarrassed or uptight about who you are. Relax & Enjoy!
If at any time, you are uncomfortable Participate: You know yourself and your body better than anyone, so feel free to talk to your therapist about the massage - you are both there for the same reason - to help you relax! Let your therapist know if the pressure is too light, or too deep, if you are too cool or warm, or if you need extra work on a particular area, or are uncomfortable with certain areas begin touched.
Feel free to ask questions and discuss any areas of concern. Some people are uncomfortable with some areas of the body being touched - typically these areas include the abdominals, the inner thighs and/or gluteals (buttocks) and the areas around a woman's breasts. Some therapists will not do some or all of these areas, others will ask your preferences and comply with your wishes.
Also tell your therapist if you experience "referred pain/sensations" - sometimes a therapist can touch an area that causes pain or sensations in another area of the body. Sensations like tingling and numbness should be mentioned to your therapist when they occur.
After Your Visit: You should expect to find yourself in an unusually relaxed state of mind and body. If this is your first massage, you might consider bringing along a "designated driver" to get you home safely while you continue to relax and enjoy your new found sense of well being.
You should also drink plenty (6-8 8oz glasses) of water in the 24-48 hours following your massage to help flush those toxins that are stimulated through your system. |
